Senior Scientist Cell Culture
Proteos is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NanoImaging Services, Inc (NIS). NIS and Proteos are global leaders in assisting pharma and biotech companies with discovery and development of therapeutics. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Cell Culture Senior Scientist to join the Protein Expression team, based in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Functions and Responsibilities
- Maintenance and expansion of mammalian and insect cells in antibiotic-free shake flask culture
- Transient transfection of HEK and CHO cells
- Large scale endo-free plasmid DNA isolation
- Baculovirus production
- Baculovirus titer determination via flow cytometry assay
- Buffer and media preparation
- Protein analysis via SDS-PAGE and western blot
- Maintenance of cell and plasmid logs
- Sequence analysis
- Protein purification using affinity chromatography methods
- Maintain accurate records
- Accurately analyze and document data in technical documents
- Reports to Vice President Scientific Operations
Basic Qualifications – Education/Experience
- PhD with ≥3 years of relevant industry experience, or BS/MS with more than 7 years
- Comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in the areas of
- Molecular biology
- Sequence analysis
- Primer selection
- PCR
- Plasmid DNA isolation
- Aseptic technique
- Cell biology
- Biosafety level 2 (BSL-2)
- Suspension culture of mammalian and insect cells
- Transient transfection
- Baculovirus mediated protein expression
- Cell line development
- Protein analysis
- SDS-PAGE and western blot
- Ability to work safely in a BSL-2 laboratory environment
- Strong organization skills and ability to multi-task
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Molecular biology
Ideal qualifications
- Experience with large scale (60 L) antibiotic-free shake-flask cell culture
- Proficiency using the Bac-to-Bac system for baculovirus production
- Familiarity with the following instruments:
- ViCELL
- GelDoc GO gel imaging system
- Thermocycler
- Guava flow cytometer
- Nanodrop
- Solid understanding of protein purification via affinity chromatography

In addition to the above the following are required for working in the Lab:
- Must be able to perform work for extended times in a biosafety cabinet.
- Must be available to work extended days and weekends as needed
- The person in this position needs mobility to move around lab and dock area
- The person in this position must be able to frequently exchange accurate information with peers, supervisor, and external clients.
- Frequently moves equipment/buckets that weight up to 50 pounds
- Constantly exposed to Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2)
